Mid Halton Outfall Tunnel

Mid Halton WWTP Effluent Outfall Tunnel Breakthrough

Congratulations to the entire STRABAG team working on the Mid Halton WWTP Effluent Outfall Tunnel.

Yet another accurate and precise breakthrough was made, notably due to tremendous efforts of the project tunnel surveying crew.

At Monteith & Sutherland we are happy to have had contributed to this success by performing numerous gyroscopic surveys, using GYROMAT3000 in order to verify the correctness of the complex underground traverse network spanning over 4 kilometers.

Spot on!

GIS Day at York University

In the spirit of GIS Day on November 18 2015, York University’s Geomatics Club held a celebration centred on “Geomatics Engineering in Transportation.” Monteith & Sutherland were invited to speak at the event with Aleks Kubilius, Chief Operating Officer, and Brent Golem, Project Manager, discussing their experience with the Eglinton-Crosstown LRT project and use of the Gyromat to keep the engineering work on track. Thanks to Dennis Sherman and the Geomatics Club for their hospitality.

ECLRT Deformation Monitoring

On the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit project we perform precise deformation monitoring, where we survey surface and building settlement points. There are approximately 4250 settlement instruments to be observed over the course of the project, with 6 survey crews working together to complete daily monitoring tasks where there is active construction. One of the most challenging aspects of this monitoring project is measuring above the Tunnel Boring Machines at night and combating poor lighting and glare from car headlights. See below for a glimpse at the process:
